The sculpture of Alice Nutter is in the village of Roughlee. It was designed and built by local artist David Palmer and was unveiled officially on 28th July 2012. The year is imoprtant as it marks the 400th anniversary of the Pendle Witches and most famous witchcraft trial in the country. Unlike the other so-called witches, Alice, was a woman of means, "a gentlewoman". She lived at Crowtrees in Roughlee and it is remarked that her brave silence at the trial may have been protect a catholic priest. Alice also features as a ceramic plaque on the Pendle Sculpture Trail with the other nine "witches" and there are a number of witches trails which you can explore to find out more about the Pendle Witches.
