A Titanic Festival for Pendle and Lancashire

Published Thursday 20th October 11
Pendle is getting events underway for a Titanic Festival in 2012 to mark the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the legendary ship.
Events include two world premieres:
- A major exhibition at Colne Municipal Hall which brings together Titanic memorabilia from a number of private collections for the first time
- A new musical composition by composer Peter Young commissioned by Colne Town Council based on the bandmaster of the Titanic, Wallace Hartley, who came from Colne.
The Festival is being co-ordinated by a team of people across Pendle, including Colne Library, The Titanic in Lancashire Museum in Colne, local churches, Colne Town Council and Pendle Council.
Tourism leader, Councillor Jonathan Eyre said:
"We're proud of Titanic bandmaster Wallace Hartley who came from Colne in Pendle.
"It's fitting that we work together to mark the Titanic's significance to us with a range of fascinating and exciting events starting this October.
"We're also looking for ideas and support from local people, organisations and businesses to make 2012 a very special year," he explained.
Local businesses can show their support for the Titanic Festival through sponsorship and by taking part in commemorative events.
