Description
Titanic. The word is familiar to almost everyone. The Titanic disaster impacted the world over, almost every country in the world lost citizens in history’s most infamous sinking.
Lancashire has far more links with the Titanic disaster than anyone might suppose.70 people from the county were either onboard the doomed White Star Liner or were very closely involved.
People like the world famous band leader Wallace Hartley, from Colne who kept the band playing as the ship sank and was returned home a hero to Colne and interred at the town cemetery.
Later a bust was erected, and the town will honour him again in 2012……100 years after the sinking when a new memorial will be dedicated in the newly opened Titanic In Lancashire Museum in Colne.
Other Lancashire connections include the Captain of the ship which rescued Titanic’s survivors, Arthur Rostron,
NEW FOR 2012 is the Titanic in Lancashire Museum, next to St Bartholomew’s Church in Colne. More details from www.visitpendle.com
