Affectionately known locally as Barlick, and distinctly different to “clone town” Britain, the town has a great market and the second highest concentration of independent shops in the UK. That’s higher than Arundel or Hebden Bridge!

Barnoldswick has recently won the Best British High Street Award and was also voted as being better than the Trafford Centre, winning hands down for shopper experience!  Barnoldswick’s shops have  that independent touch and give the service and choice you deserve. Just on the edge of the town is one of the best family attractions around – Thornton Hall Farm.

Barlick is proud of it’s manufacturing traditions. Bancroft Mill, which is on the Stream and Steam Trail, is one of the finest mill museums around and the town boasts some huge names such as Rolls Royce and Hope Technology. They produce bike components and ship throughout the globe. They have plans for a £2millon velodrome. Not bad for a small market town! There’s also a fantastic range of events throughout the year, including Barlick Beach.

The town is tucked away on the border of Lancashire and Yorkshire, and is situated in a beautiful part of the world with lots of great walks and cycle rides. Barlick has a book of its own walks, but if want something more challenging why not try the West Craven Way? The Pennine Cycle and Bridleway routes also pass through here.

Pauline Hunt who runs “Decisions Decisions” told us why Barnoldswick is a town she is proud of, “ I came to Barnoldswick 10 years ago, having lived close to a big city all of my life.  I wanted to belong to a community. Barnoldswick has a great community spirit, and has welcomed me warmly.So many people work hard to make the town great, and we now have many visitors that want to see what we have to offer. Local events are often, like” bands on the square” which draws massive crowds, as well as the Christmas light switch on. We even have an annual beach event in the school holidays, which is so popular with families.

We have a fantastic range of shops for a small town and regular markets. That’s why we won a Great British High Street Award last year. The walks around the area are fabulous, including the walk up Weets Hill, canal walk to Foulridge and bike rides to Greenberfield Locks. The people in the town have worked hard for all of this…that’s why this town truly inspires me!!”
