Tracy Chevalier on Pendle Hill
Tracy Chevalier, author of worldwide bestseller Girl with a Pearl Earring, recently visited Pendle to climb Pendle Hill and explore the area’s Quaker connections. The novelist followed in the footsteps of George Fox who climbed the hill in 1652 and had a compelling vision on its summit which led him to found the Quaker movement.
Tracy said: “You don’t understand the power of the place until you come and witness it yourself… What could be better than Pendle Hill? It’s a stunning back drop to so much important history”
Download our Pendle Three Peaks Guide and you too can follow in the famous author’s footsteps by climbing this iconic landmark.
Sarah Lee, from Pendle Council’s Communications Team said: “We’re developing a new Quaker walk to help others enjoy an area which is a place of world wide pilgrimage. We’ve wanted to share our area’s Quaker connections for a long time and this true story still has deep resonance today. The walk will be part of a new Pendle Radicals Trail.”
Another of Pendle's radical thinkers was Jonas Moore, and you can follow his fascinating life on the Jonas Moore Trail.
