Places to Eat and Drink in Pendle

Pendle is one of the best places to indulge yourself in Lancashire, and was the first Fair Trade borough in the country.

In Pendle you can experience many different cuisines, from the continental in Colne to restaurants in idyllic rural settings, like the Fence Gate Inn. "The Guardian", described The Fence Gate Inn as "doing the simple things well...(it) uses the best local ingredients". Other great rural eateries include Ye Old Sparrowhawk Inn, in Fence and the Lakeside Cafe in Ball Grove Nature Reserve.

One of the most popular walks is up Pendle Hill, and there are many great places at the foot of the hill to satisfy your hunger and thirst. Having made the climb you can go the Cabin, the Barley Mow or the Pendle Inn. Also nearby is a young chef based at The White Swan in Roughlee who has been receiving rave reviews, called Tom Parker. Pendle has many great restaurants situated in rural surroundings, but if you prefer a more cosmopolitan feel to your dining experience why not try the town of Colne where you have a choice of many different types of cuisine. People watching is enjoyed in its many cafes.

Pendle is also proud of its other local products, like world-beating biscuits. Purveyors of biscuits to Harrods no less, the baking smells that surround Farmhouse Biscuits, are worth the visit alone, even without a trip to its Factory Shop!

The shop is popular with coach parties, as is Moorhouses Brewery, brewers since 1865 of beers with real flavour and striking local names, such as Black Cat and Pendle Witches Brew that can be found in a selection of local pubs.
