About
On Thursday 21st April we are lighting a Beacon as part of the Beacon Festival for the Queen's 90th Birthday.
Assemble for 7pm on the Springfield School turning circle (just off Stoney bank Road, Bailey Street, Earby.)
Torches will be distributed and lit ready to move off in a Torchlight Procession at 7.15pm, up Stoney Bank hill to the Picnic Site overlooking Earby where the Beacon will be lit.
Glo-sticks will be given to younger people and under 16's must be accompanied by a responsible adult and will not be allowed to carry the torches.
The Community Mini Bus will lead with people who cannot climb the hill on board.
The Earby Brass Band will be up on site and will play a selection of music as the procession arrives.
Prior to the Beacon being lit the Churches Together Ministers will say a few Prayers of Thanksgiving for Her Majesty, The Chairman, Cllr Chris Tennant will read out a letter from Prince Charles (issued to all Beacon Festival Organisors)The National Anthem will be played and the Beacon lit at 8pm by the Chairman and Mrs Barbara Knock, a former Town Councillor, who also shares the same birthday as the Queen,( I hasten to say Barbara is not 90 years old),
We are advertising for anyone else who shares the same birthday, and is available, to come along, make theirselves known to us, and they to can help light the Beacon. After a chorus of Happy Birtday to Her Majesty, there will be a firework display before we proceed back down the hill by torchlight to the starting point to extinguish our torches.
